Real Flow

Flow confirmation for your zone read. Renders a flow signal in its own panel with a Buy Line / Mid / Sell Line zone — when both charts agree, you have confluence. When they don't, you have a question.

Overview

Confirm your zone read with flow.

Real Flow is a confirmation overlay for your zone read. It renders into its own panel below the chart and shows you a flow signal anchored to a session of your choice. A Flow Zone is built around that signal — Buy Line at the top, Zone Mid in the middle, Sell Line at the bottom — using the same framework you already use on the price chart.

The whole point is alignment. When your price chart and the Real Flow chart agree on which side of their respective zones the market is on, you have confluence. When they disagree, you don't have a setup yet — you have a question.

Real Flow is a confirmation tool, not a signal generator. The price chart shows you where the auction is. Real Flow shows you whether the flow read agrees.
Four Alignment States
Read both charts together.
1

Aligned LONG. Price > price-chart zone AND flow candles > flow zone. Long setups favored.

2

Aligned SHORT. Price < price-chart zone AND flow candles < flow zone. Short setups favored.

3

Mixed (price up, flow down). Price has moved without flow agreement. Wait or skip.

4

Mixed (price down, flow up). Price has dropped without flow agreement. Wait for flow to confirm.

Reading the Panel

Six visual elements, three groups

Real Flow renders into its own lower panel. Six visual elements organized into three groups: the flow candles, the zone framework, and context aids.

Group 1

Flow Candles

The flow read in the lower panel. Cream candles up, blue candles down. The chart's 'tape' for what the flow signal is doing inside the session.

Group 2

Zone Framework

Three horizontal lines defining the running session range. Buy Line (resistance ceiling), Sell Line (support floor), Zone Mid (bias pivot).

Group 3

Context Aids

Colored translucent fill between the lines (green=bull, red=bear, gray=neutral). Yellow vertical bands mark each new session anchor.

The Alignment Workflow

How to read Real Flow against the price chart

The mental model is simple: both charts have a Buy Line, Zone Mid, and Sell Line. When both agree on which side of their respective zones the market sits, conditions are aligned. When they disagree, conditions are inconclusive — and inconclusive is information.

Aligned Long

Both bullish

Price > price-chart zone and flow candles > flow zone.

Long setups on pullbacks favored. Wait for retest into the zone, then look for the flow chart to reclaim its Buy Line.

Aligned Short

Both bearish

Price < price-chart zone and flow candles < flow zone.

Short setups on rallies favored. Wait for retest, then look for flow to reject the zone.

Mixed

Disagreement = wait

Price up, flow down: price moved without flow agreement. Wait for flow reclaim, or skip.

Price down, flow up: price dropped without flow agreement. Wait for flow rejection.

TIP

The one-line rule. If price is above its zone but Real Flow is below its zone, you don't have a long — you have a price move that the flow read hasn't agreed with. Wait for both, or skip.

Confirmation Patterns

The long and short confluence playbook

The alignment table tells you what state the market is in. The patterns below tell you when to act within each state.

Confirmed Short

The textbook setup

1. Establish bearish alignment: price above its zone (rally), Real Flow below its zone.

2. Wait for the price-chart zone retest — Buy Line touch or Mid rejection.

3. Real Flow drops back through its Sell Line on the same retest. Zone fill flips red.

4. Take the short. Both charts agree at their respective rejection points.

Confirmed Long

Inverse — same dance

1. Establish bullish alignment: price below its zone (pullback), Real Flow above its zone.

2. Wait for the price-chart zone retest — Sell Line touch or Mid bounce.

3. Real Flow pushes back above its Buy Line. Zone fill flips green.

4. Take the long. Both charts confirm the bid.

Anti-Patterns

Setups that look like confirmation but aren't

Real Flow's job is to filter trades, not generate them. Half the time, that filtering means saying no to setups that look clean on the price chart but lack flow support.

Anti-Pattern 1

False Breakout

Price breaks above its Buy Line decisively, looks like a long. Real Flow candles still below their Sell Line.

Refuse the long. Either price reverses or flow eventually catches up — slow, lossy waiting either way.

Anti-Pattern 2

Flow-Only Move

Real Flow rips above its Buy Line. Fill flips green, candles trend up. But on the price chart, price is still mid-zone or below.

Don't chase. Flow leading is fine; flow without price confirmation is a setup-in-progress, not a setup.

Anti-Pattern 3

Exhausted Trend

Both charts aligned bullish for hours. Price grinds higher. Real Flow candles flatten well above the Buy Line.

Don't add to longs. The flow read is no longer extending the trend — partial-profit rules earn their pay here.

Anti-Pattern 4

Session Anchor Mismatch

You're trading a New York session play, but Real Flow is anchored to ETH or Daily.

Match anchors. Mismatched anchors produce mismatched zones, which produces noise dressed as signal.

TIP

The quiet rule. If Real Flow is sitting flat in its zone — neither breaking out nor breaking down — there is no trade. The market is in balance. Don't force confirmation that isn't there.

Settings Reference

Anchors, sensitivity, alerts

Real Flow's defaults are calibrated for NQ/MNQ scalping anchored to the New York session.

Anchor & Timing

Session control
Anchor to Session OnMaster toggle for the flow reset. On = flow resets at every session boundary. Off = runs continuously since chart load.
Anchor Mode SessionSession = named windows (NY, RTH, etc). Time Based = resets on regular interval (1H, 4H, daily, weekly).
Named Session New YorkWhen Anchor Mode = Session: New York, London, Asia, US Premarket, 3:50 Algo, Initial Balance, RTH, ETH, Daily.
Time Based IntervalWhen Anchor Mode = Time Based: 1/2/3/4/5/10/15/30/45 Minute, 1/2/3/4/6/12 Hour, 1 Day, 1 Week, 1 Month.

Flow Engine

Signal tuning
Sensitivity 4Controls Buy Line / Sell Line tightness around the session range. 1 = lines hug extremes (rare touches). 10 = lines crowd the mid (frequent touches). 4 calibrated for NQ/MNQ.
Normalize OffStabilizes the flow read on symbols whose magnitude drifts. Turn on if candles drift off-screen.
Show EMA Line On (NT8)Smoothing line on the flow candles. Helpful for spotting flow trend vs noise. Highest-information line in the panel.
Use Confirmed Bar OnAlerts only fire on bar close. Tilted toward fewer trades, better quality.

Visualization

Display
Zone Color Mode Flow RegimeStatic = single user-picked fill color. Flow Regime = green/red/gray based on whether the candle has broken Buy Line, Sell Line, or sitting in the middle.
Show Zone Fill OnThe color shift is what your eye catches first. Keep on.

Alerts

Reclaim/reject events
Buy Line Reclaim/RejectFires when flow's close crosses the Buy Line in either direction.
Sell Line Reclaim/RejectFires when flow's close crosses the Sell Line in either direction.
Alerts

Buy/Sell Line cross events

Configure in TradingView's alert panel or NinjaTrader's alert system. Wire to email, SMS, or webhook.

Buy Line Events

2 alerts
Buy Line ReclaimFlow closed back above the Buy Line — bullish reclaim.
Buy Line RejectFlow closed back below the Buy Line — bullish rejection.

Sell Line Events

2 alerts
Sell Line ReclaimFlow closed back above the Sell Line — bearish reclaim.
Sell Line RejectFlow closed back below the Sell Line — bearish rejection / breakdown.
TIP

Alerts are prompts, not triggers. A Buy Line Reclaim alert tells you what the flow chart did. It does not tell you what the price chart is doing. Always confirm both charts before acting.

Common Mistakes

How traders misuse Real Flow

Real Flow is a confirmation overlay, not a standalone signal. Most mistakes come from forgetting that.

Trading Real Flow without the price chart

The flow chart breaking out is interesting; it's not a trade. The trade still requires the price chart to be at a zone level worth trading.

Mismatched session anchors between charts

Price chart anchored to NY; Real Flow at default Daily. The two zones are computed over different windows and can't be meaningfully compared. Always match anchors.

Forcing confirmation that isn't there

Real Flow flat in its mid-zone, you squint and convince yourself the candles are 'leaning bullish.' They aren't. No opinion is information. Skip.

Acting on Buy/Sell Line alerts in isolation

An alert is a prompt to look, not a prompt to trade. Always confirm the price chart is also at a tradeable level.

Switching sensitivity mid-session

Bumping Sensitivity from 4 to 7 mid-session destroys your read — the zones change shape under you. Tune between sessions, not within them.

Running Real Flow on a symbol that lacks volume data

Some forex providers and CFDs don't supply true volume. The Real Flow read is meaningless on those feeds. Stick to symbols where your broker provides real volume.

Ignoring the EMA when it's the most useful line

Candles above EMA = flow trending up regardless of zone state. Below = trending down. Many traders turn it off because it 'clutters' the chart. They throw away the highest-information line in the panel.

Treating mixed states as opportunities

Mixed (price up, flow down) is the market saying 'something doesn't fit.' That's information — it tells you to wait, not to trade the disagreement.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Asset Stack labels product-defined flow events alongside the chart asset. Real Flow plots a separate product-derived flow view with its own zones for side-by-side comparison. They organize different displays; neither identifies participant intent or guarantees confirmation.

Choose the edition that fits your workflow and available data. Both present the core Real Flow concept, but platform inputs, defaults, calculations, rendering, and available features can differ. Compare the documented settings on your own feed rather than assuming feature or output parity.

Real Flow can be applied when the selected platform and feed provide suitable volume history for the symbol. Volume fields and classification methods vary across equities, futures, forex, and crypto feeds, so confirm what the provider supplies before interpreting the display.

Check whether the chart loaded enough history for the selected anchor, whether the symbol and feed expose the required volume data, and whether the product reports an access state such as NOT LICENSED. For an access error, verify the current installation and membership through official support rather than sharing credentials.

Yes, subject to platform and system-resource limits. Separate instances can use different anchor settings, such as a session window and a daily window. Label them clearly and monitor chart performance when stacking displays.

Sensitivity changes how the lines are positioned within the running session range. Lower and higher values change proximity and contact frequency under the product's rules. Default 4 is a documented starting point, not a probability calibration; compare settings on the same data window.

EMA Length controls the smoothing and response of the displayed flow series. A longer length is smoother and slower to react; a shorter length is more responsive to bar-to-bar changes. Choose it through repeatable testing rather than assuming one length is best for a holding period.

Ready?

Two charts in agreement is a trade. Anything else is a question.
